Integrated amplifiers combine preamplifier and power amplifier in one chassis. In the 1970s and 80s, the best Japanese integrated amplifiers competed directly with separate components at a lower price. Today they're a value proposition in the used market; you can buy a genuinely excellent vintage integrated for a fraction of what equivalent separates cost.

Why integrated amplifiers vs receivers
A vintage integrated amplifier omits the FM tuner. If you don't use FM, you're not paying for tuner circuitry you don't need. The amplifier section in a dedicated integrated is typically better-specified than the same price-point receiver because the budget goes into the amp rather than being split with a tuner. For vinyl and streaming, an integrated amplifier is often the better choice over a receiver.
The Japanese brands: Luxman, Sansui, Yamaha, Kenwood
Luxman integrated amplifiers (L-570, L-550, L-480) hold the highest values in this category; see the Luxman amplifier guide for details. Sansui integrated amplifiers (AU-series: AU-717, AU-919, AU-D907F) are collected alongside the receivers and price similarly for equivalent-power models. Yamaha CA-series integrated amplifiers (CA-1010, CA-2010) are undervalued relative to quality. Kenwood KA-series follows a similar pattern.
British integrated amplifiers
Rega (Brio-R, Elex-R) and Naim are current-production British integrated amplifiers with strong used markets. They hold value well because both companies still service older units. A used Rega Brio-R lists from $350 to $550. A Naim Nait 5i lists from $500 to $800.
What to check before buying
The same capacitor aging applies to integrated amplifiers as to receivers. Bias drift is a specific concern in power amplifier stages; output transistors run at incorrect bias cause distortion and in extreme cases can damage speakers. Ask whether the unit has been serviced and whether output bias has been set. A technician can measure and adjust bias in 30 minutes.
